FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions about Insultec and its
application.
How many coats of Insultec do I need?
For most surfaces in good condition, one or two coats of Insultec is
sufficient after priming with Insulprime. On particularly porous or
damaged surfaces, a third coat may be recommended for full membrane
integrity and optimal thermal performance.
Can Insultec be applied over existing paint?
Yes — existing painted surfaces should be in sound, well-bonded
condition. Gloss surfaces must be sanded prior to application. Any
loose or flaking paint should be removed and spot-primed before
applying Insulprime and then Insultec.
Is Insultec suitable for terracotta roof tiles?
No. Insultec is NOT suitable for terracotta tiles. It is however
suitable for slate, concrete, and most other tile types. If in
doubt, contact our technical team for advice specific to your roof
material.
How long does Insultec take to dry?
Insultec is touch dry within 1–2 hours at 25°C. Recoating can take
place after 2–4 hours. Full cure takes approximately 7 days. Avoid
rain within 2 hours of application and do not apply below 10°C.
How does Insultec reduce heat?
Insultec contains millions of hollow ceramic microspheres that
create a highly reflective and insulating barrier. These
microspheres reflect up to 90% of solar radiation, preventing it
from being absorbed into the roof surface and transferred into the
building below — resulting in surface temperature reductions of up
to 15°C.
Do I need to use Insulprime before Insultec?
Yes, Insulprime is strongly recommended as it significantly improves
adhesion between the substrate and the Insultec membrane. Using
Insulprime ensures long-term bonding and maximises the performance
life of the coating.
Is Insultec eco-friendly?
Yes. Insultec is a water-based formula with near-zero VOC content
(less than 10 g/L). It is safe to use around people and pets when
applied as directed, and packaging is fully recyclable.
